It had been a rather tough day of training for Mistpaw. Her mentor, Mousecry, had taking her out for battle training but all the moves Mistpaw had learnt in previous training sessions seemed to have been erased from her mind. She tripped over her paws and continuously misjudged her leaps. 'What is wrong with me?' she almost wailed out loud. She couldn't seem to make friends, she couldn't remember any of her battle training and to top it off; when Mousecry said they should just go hunting, she scared just all the prey in the forest because she stood on a thorn.
She returned to camp with a somber expression on her face and her tail drooped. Her stomach grumbled but she couldn't bring herself to eat because she hadn't caught anything at all. Instead she sat in the shadows of the cave sobbing. She didn't know why she had been so unfocused and it was really getting under her skin.
Finally the cave became to cramped for Mistpaw to think in peace. She crept through the entrance making sure no one noticed then leapt gracefully down the rocky path to the bottom of Mount Talon then raced through the the forest. Snow covered the ground and glistened in the pale sunlight. The cold air was freezing her limb when finally she found a hollow tree trunk at the edge of Ragged clans territory very close to Aspen clan. She settled down in the gnarled root of the tree and tried to relax. The cold air was nipping at her limbs and Mistpaw began to shiver. 'What possessed me to come out? I'll freeze to death' she questioned herself. Mistpaw was so cold though that she wasn't sure if her limbs would carry her back to camp, so she decided it was best to just stay where she was.

Robinflight was checking the border on her own, the clan needed food badly and Raggedclan didn't seem to be posing a threat currently so the border wasn't of dire importance. One cat checking it a few times a day was more than enough to keep the markers fresh. She was almost finished with her solo patrol when she heard something odd. Pricking her ears she listened carefully, though it was on the other side of the border and she wasn't sure why she even bothered considering her legs were freezing off and she should be getting back to camp. She managed to pick out the sound of a cat crying, it was a small voice, a young apprentice she guessed, a kit wouldn't have survived wandering so far from the Raggedclan camp.
Not willing to cross the border Robinflight stood with her toes just touching the mark and craned her neck to see if she could see anything. "Hello?" she called out in a loud voice, "Is everything all right? Is someone hurt?" Robinflight was a good natured cat, and even if it was an enemy warrior she couldn't stand to see a young cat in pain, so if they needed it she'd be willing to help without a moment's hesitation.

Mistpaw heard the voice of a cat nearby. It echoed through the cold empty air. Taking a deep breath Mistpaw answered. "I-I'm f-fine." she stuttered. She was shivering so violently she could hardly say anymore. She slowly tried to get up and find where the kind voice came from. 'Am I dying?' she wondered. She felt cold enough to be, maybe she was on her way to the hunting grounds of star clan. "A-are you st-still th-there?" the words tumbled out of her mouth but seemed to float slowly through the air. She tripped over her paws into the snow in a vain attempt to get to the cat who's voice she had heard. 'Why did I ever leave camp?' she wailed silently.
Her limbs were numb as ice and her body felt like a lump of wood. She called out one more time hoping the other cat would find her. "H-hello!" she called as loud as she could, the energy draining from her body fast as the rivers ran into the sea. She wouldn't stop fighting though, she kept her eyes open as wide as she could and continuously tried to move closer to the voice she had heard. With each tedious step she would sink deep into the snow. It was becoming harder and harder to move. When Mistpaw looked to the sky she saw clouds of snow beginning to form on the horizon.

Once Robinflight decided she needed to cross the border and help she did so quickly, more worried about the cat caught out in the cold than being spotted by a patrol. "I'm here!" she called out and fallowed that cat's voice. She wasn't hard to find, Robinflight could hear her crunching the thick packed snow trying to find her way to solid ground. Leaping over the snow drift she quickly fallowed that cat's trail and found her. She'd must have been so cold she was confused, because she was only plowing herself deeper and deeper into the snow, "Come on, let me get you out of here."
Picking up the cat by it's scruff she pulled back. Despite it's young age the cat was roughly the same size as Robinflight and hard to carry, but she managed and soon she'd gotten that cat out of the snow. She was frozen to the bone and Robinflight was worried the poor cat might lose her toes. Trying to remember how to warm up cats when it was cold out like this she layed the apprentice down in the open. Then something triggered in her memory, she'd heard something about mountain cats rubbing cold kittens fur the wrong way to warm them up. It was worth a shot, considering the apprentice hardly seemed conscious and it was better than nothing. Robinflight started rubbing the cats fur from tail to neck, creating friction. At first it didn't work and she began to panic, working faster. Finally her fur seemed to be warming up under her paws, now she just had to keep working until the cat reacted... or died....

Mistpaw felt herself being lifted from the deep snow. Everything was blurred and it felt as if she was watching the next events that occurred from outside her body. She saw a red cat lay her down on solid ground and begin to rub her fur backwards. She continuously slipped in and out of conscientiousness. Until finally her body began to regain some warmth. She looked to the cat that had helped her. "Am I alive?" she thought out loud. Maybe she felt warm again because she had died.
The cat that was crouched beside her was not from ragged clan. Her scent smelt of forests more than it did of the fresh air on the mountain. 'She not from Tidal clan or she would smell of the sea, wouldn't she?' Mistpaw thought inquisitively. 'She must be from Aspen clan.' Mistpaw came to the only logical conclusion she could think of.
Mistpaw looked at the sky and realised that she needed to return to camp. She tried to push her self to her paws but her legs gave way and she flopped back onto her belly. She felt utterly disappointed in herself. "I'm sorry," she said and looked at the cat sitting beside her. "I was foolish to leave camp alone when it is so cold." She felt like a failure for acting so rashly, she could have died if the Aspen clan warrior hadn't found her.

"It was foolish," Robinflight admitted, "but every apprentice does something foolish before becoming a warrior," her voice was sold and comforting, she was happy to see that the cat was alive, "And yes, of course you are alive, otherwise you wouldn't still be surrounded by this treacherous snow."
When the apprentice tried to stand up and flopped back down to the ground Robinflight warned her, "You probably should stay here and warm up a little longer, I'll walk you back to your camp once you're warm. Why are you out here anyways? Please don't tell me you just wanted to go hunting, even an apprentice isn't that mouse brained."

Mistpaw brightened a bit at the she-cats kind words but then felt herself pulled down again by the wait of the painful day. "I...I needed some space to think..." She answered. "It has been a bit of a rough day." She looked to the ground and moved the snow with her paws. She hated the feeling of being so helpless, it brought back memories of her past. She shook the memories from her head and looked at the aspen clan warrior. "I'm Mistpaw, who are who?" she asked inquisitively.
Wind began to pick up but it didn't surprise Mistpaw; it was leaf-bare after all. The she cat seemed a lot nicer than Mistpaw would have expected from a rival clan. 'Not all cats are the same.' she thought. She knew cats in ragged clan that may not be so friendly to a cat from another clan but she also knew cats that could be over friendly to an outsider.
She tried to relax a bit more since she needed to regain her strength so she could be their for a while. She turned to one side and tried to get comfortable, though it was hard because it was so cold. "AH CHOOO" Mistpaw snuffed and tried to hide her loud sneeze.

"I'm Robinflight," she responded, "have you talked about it to anyone? I'm all ears if you need someone to listen, it's not like anything you say could be used against your clan. Unless you're upset about some awesome new battle strategy you learned," she laughed after that, partially because of her own joke and partially because of Mistpaw's sneeze. Robinflight didn't really feel that out of place even though she had crossed the border, she knew she was doing Ragged clan a favor so she highly doubted they would get mad at her for being there, it wasn't like she was stealing prey.
Robinflight moved to stand between she cold apprentice and the wind, though she was rather cold herself she could handle it.

Mistpaw giggled at Robinflight's comment. "Thank-you." She said kindly as Robinflight moved to shield her from the winter winds. She though for a bit, 'It would be some weight off my back if I can tell her how I feel.' Mistpaw thought. She felt very comfortable around the Aspen clan warrior. She took a deep breath, mentally trying to prepare herself.
She breathed out; a thin vapour tumbling from her mouth to the ground. "I...I feel like I can't do anything right." Mistpaw began looking at Robinflight. "I haven't been training for long yet I find it nearly impossible to remember battle moves and hunting techniques. I try so hard to memorise each move but it just doesn't seem to stick. I always trip over my paws and misjudge my leaps. Each move is sloppy at best. Most the other apprentices my age are much better than me." She looked at the ground, ears drooped and took a deep breath before continuing. "I haven't been training as long as the others because I was sick as a kit but I've tried to train twice as hard as the other apprentices to make up for when I was sick. It seems like the harder I try the worse I do... and I can't seem to make friends. The other apprentices always ignore me and I don't know what to do." A small tear escaped Mistpaw's eye. She waited for Robinflight's reaction. She wasn't sure as to whether she wanted to continue straight away because the next part was the most painful.

Robinflight knew exactly how the young she-cat felt, in fact it almost sounded like she hearing a younger version of herself speaking. Her apprentice days had fallowed the same path, from being a sickly kit, to being unable to make friends. For this reason she was quiet for some time before she found the right words to say.
"I know how you feel," she said in a comforting voice, "It will get better though, just try not to fret about what you're doing wrong and focus on what you're doing right and expand," She knew she probably shouldn't be helping a Raggedclan cat with her training but she couldn't help it, if only someone had been there when she was this cats age things wouldn't have been so hard on her, "As far as friends go, training has to come first, and once you start getting better they will come to you, trust me on that." She hoped she was right about that last part, it hadn't happened for her, not until long after she became a warrior, but maybe it would be different for Mistpaw.

Mistpaw smiled slightly, she felt as if a large weight had been lifted off her chest. Robinflight's answer was thoughtful and very helpful. It seemed to Mistpaw like Robinflight had gone through the same things when she was young. Her answers seemed to have an embedded understanding that couldn't be faked but Mistpaw didn't want to believe that such a kind cat could have gone through the same hardships.
She thought for a moment about the positives of that day just like Robinflight had mentioned. "I did land a pretty good blow for one of the fighting moves and...I had an almost perfect hunters crouch at one point." Mistpaw said enthusiastically.

"See? just try to do it like that again then expand from there, it's really not hard once you get into the swing of things," she was starting to get cold herself and figured it would be best now to get up and move around, "We should get you back to your camp, it will be getting dark soon."
Robinflight stood up and waited for her, there was no way she was leaving this apprentice to find her way back in the cold dark. She would have to escort her ether back to camp, or to the first patrol they found, she just hoped no one would assume she was there to hurt the apprentice and attack. Robinflight knew Raggedclan wasn't the most trusting.

Mistpaw looked at the darkening sky; a few stars were beginning to shine. She steadily got to her paws and began to pad through the cool snow. "Thank you Robinflight." she said kindly. She could never forget the kindness Robinflight had showed her.
As the last light of day shown on the horizon and the sky turned various shades of pink Mistpaw finally felt at peace. She no longer felt the heavy weight of her feelings. The had evaporated like mist in the morning. In the distance she saw Mount Talon rise up into the sky. She thought she could even see the entrance to Ragged clans camp.

Robinflight was glad to see she had been of some assistance. She knew the young apprentice would go through many more trials like this before she became a warrior, and even after, but this was the first step to a long life protecting her clan. Robinflight hoped she wouldn't have to face the young cat in battle any time soon but she knew if it were to happen she wouldn't hesitate to give it her all, and hoped Mistpaw would do the same.
It wasn't as easy for her to climb as Mistpaw especially with the sky getting darker by the paw step, but she managed to make her way up the mountain without slipping. Robinflight looked at mistpaw to see how she was doing, she knew she was a raggedclan apprentice, but she was still young and Robinflight didn't want to risk her falling if she wasn't very good at it yet.
